Fen House Dental Practice

Even though modern dental implants are over 60 years old, their ability to replace a missing tooth with a long-term, natural-looking solution is unparalleled.

As such, they remain the gold standard of tooth replacement even to this day, and not without good reason.

Unlike a conventional bridge or partial denture, single-tooth implants provide a fixed, long-lasting solution that effectively becomes part of the mouth. Moreover, when paired with a beautifully crafted crown, they create a flawlessly restored smile you can be proud of.

What is a single-tooth implant, and how can it benefit me?

As the name suggests, a single tooth implant replaces a missing tooth on a like-for-like basis. The implant is a lightweight biocompatible titanium post anchored into the jaw during a short surgical procedure.

Over time, the implant fuses with the remaining bone tissue, creating a super-strong platform upon which to attach a ceramic crown.

The key difference between a dental implant and a conventional partial denture is that it doesn’t rely on neighbouring teeth for support. It is, in effect, a standalone structure, meaning that remaining natural teeth are never compromised.

Other benefits include:

  • Longer lasting restoration – Given the right circumstances, tooth implants can last many years.
  • Halts bone atrophy – When teeth are missing, supporting bone tissue gets reabsorbed back into the body. When implants are anchored into the jaw, it stops this from happening.
  • No dietary restrictions – Sometimes missing teeth and other restorations like dentures mean that some hard and crunchy foods are off limits.

Once a dental implant has fully stabilised in the jaw, no such restrictions are necessary.

The dental implant process

The consultation

During an initial consultation, Our dentist will evaluate your mouth to see whether you’re a good candidate for dental implant treatment. They’ll do this using the latest 3D scanning technology to check for jaw bone density and any other issues that may otherwise compromise the procedure.

Pre-planning and surgery

Once everything has been signed off, Dr Shahin will determine the exact angle, trajectory and position of your tooth implant with the help of the latest digital technology. This information is then transferred across to surgical guides, who use it in the surgical process itself.

Because of meticulous pre-planning, surgery time is greatly minimised. During the brief and comfortable process, the implant is carefully placed into position following the surgical guides. After surgery, patients can return home.

Before leaving, we’ll give you full aftercare instructions and some medication to ease any slight discomfort you may feel.

Osseointegration/bone fusion and final fitting

Over the coming weeks or months, the implant will fuse with the bone tissue in a process known as osseointegration. This ensures total stability as the implant becomes an integral part of the jaw. Once stabilised, you’ll be called back to Fen House Dental for a final fitting; this is where any temporary crown is removed and a permanent one is fitted. Once complete, you’ll have a flawless restoration that blends in perfectly with your existing smile.

The process as a whole

The entire process takes somewhere between 4-9 months to complete, and during that time, you should be able to carry on normally. So, although the procedure can take a while, the wait (and the result) is most definitely worth it!

Give your existing smile some love

Getting a dental implant is probably the most appropriate solution for a missing tooth, and we want to help you achieve exactly that. High-quality tooth implants fitted with exquisitely crafted crowns not only provide outstanding functionality but also flawless aesthetics, giving you a real confidence boost.

FAQs

What tooth implants do you use?

Primarily we use Biohorizons. They’re renowned for making some of the highest quality implants in the world. Their uniquely engineered threads promote better bone-to-implant fusion for speedy stabilisation.

Can I get dental implants on the NHS?

Unfortunately, dental implants are not normally offered via the NHS because they only offer treatments that are considered essential or necessary to a patient’s oral health. Cosmetic treatments such as tooth implants rarely fall into either category.

Therefore, implant procedures like the ones carried out at Fen House Dental are usually paid for privately.

How can I pay for implant treatment?

We understand that tooth implants are a big initial investment. In most cases, we offer flexible payment options, including finance plans that allow people to pay monthly over a set period. This way, it isn’t such a big hit on your wallet. Why not ask us about our affordable payment plans?

Should I always replace a missing tooth?

It’s important to acknowledge what happens when you leave a tooth gap. Remaining teeth can shift out of alignment, causing bite issues and excessive wear and tear on other teeth. In addition, bone resorption can wreak havoc on other teeth, causing them to loosen. By replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant, you avoid all of these problems, which means you’ll have a greater chance of preserving your smile for longer.

How should I care for a dental implant?

Once an implant is fully integrated into the mouth, caring for it is just as easy as looking after your natural teeth. As long as you ensure regular and thorough brushing and flossing and attend regular dental visits, there’s no reason why your implants (and your natural teeth) shouldn’t remain healthy for many years.
