At Fen House Dental, one of our main focuses is preventative dentistry.
For this reason, we believe in performing thorough dental checkups for all our Spalding patients. Understandably, some people may consider their regular dental check-ups or examinations as a pointless exercise, particularly when they don’t feel any discomfort or notice any conditions. In truth, a dental check-up is highly important as it’s the best way that we can help you maintain a healthy smile.
Consider a dental examination as an MOT for your mouth. When you check it over regularly, you know that everything is okay, giving you peace of mind. Alternatively, because not all dental problems are painful or easy to spot, a failure to get checked over can mean that any issues that may at first seem trivial can escalate into something more serious.
Therefore, even if you haven’t been for a dental check-up in a while, we urge you to visit us. We won’t judge you and will use our skills to help you stay on top of your dental health.
What to expect
Step 1: Quick consultation
During the first stage of the process, particularly if you’re a new patient, we will ask you questions about your general health and any past dental problems. We’ll also ask you about any current medications or any concerns you have.
Step 2: X-Rays
In most cases, our dentist will want to take a series of X-rays to ensure there are no underlying problems with your teeth and gums. Dr Shahin and Dr Pirvu will be looking for any loss of bone that may signify periodontal disease or bite alignment problems.
Step 3: Dental examination
If your teeth are a little sensitive, our dentist may offer a local anaesthetic to ensure you remain comfortable during the examination. Once you’re relaxed, Dr Shahin or Dr Pirvu will check your teeth and gums, as well as your tongue, head and neck. They will look carefully behind and between your teeth and will check your tooth enamel. He will also check for any swelling, redness or sores in your mouth and will examine the periodontal pockets along the gum line for signs of periodontal disease.
Step 4: Cleaning
After the examination, the next stage is to thoroughly clean your mouth. This may involve the removal of hard-to-reach plaque or tartar, as well as giving your teeth a good polish. This leaves your teeth refreshingly clean.
Step 5: Treatment plan
Finally, if any problems are found, we will draw up a custom treatment plan for getting your smile back on track. This will include treatments, timescales, and, of course, costs.
